"You can hear in our gospel passage today Jesus’ own discomfort with the label king or kingdom. How can Jesus make pilate or anyone understand that he may be a king, but when a crown is placed on his head it will not be made of gold, but of thorns? And that this was how it was intended to be, this was not a failed plan by our king, but this was actually by design. "
