The 22nd Sunday After Pentecost: Meaning Making

Lucas Abernathy

The 22nd Sunday After Pentecost

Text: Job 42:1-6, 10-17 and Mark 10:46-52

"We are wired for tribalism and seeing the world as us vs them; Jesus tells us to not only love our neighbors, but to love our enemies! The world says it’s survival of the fittest out there; Jesus says it’s the neglected and marginalized who matter the most. We’re told to strive towards achievement and ambition, to acquire status and acclaim; Jesus says in God’s kingdom the last will be first. We prize our knowledge and studies and accumulated wisdom; Jesus says it’s the children that really know what’s up. " This Sunday's sermon is now available.
