From the Associate Vicar: Annual Meeting

Dear Ones of St. C’s,

I remember when I was in my early twenties and regularly attending a church for the first time as an adult and another parishioner asked me if I was going to the annual meeting after church.  I sort of looked at them confused and then with a look of boredom and said, “No, that sounded awful.” I literally could not understand why I would want to go to that meeting.  Now as a priest every time I invite people to an annual meeting I remember my initial response at the idea. And, I always wonder what I could have said to my younger self to convince her to stay.  See, overtime, I have come to see the importance of an annual meeting.  The ritual of coming together once a year as a community reviewing the budget, electing and knowing who is on your Bishop’s Committee (board), and reflecting on who we are as a community and where we might be going.  We take for granted here that the budget is so transparent, but it is important to review together and ask good questions.  Sometimes we might take advantage of the board members who work behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly, especially around building needs.  So, it is important that we publicly thank the one’s who are going off the board and acknowledge those who have stepped up on behalf of all of us.

So, having come around myself on the old annual meeting, I hope that you will join your Bishop’s Committee (board), the staff of St. C’s, and all of the rest of our community on Jan. 26th after the 10am service for the Annual meeting. Lunch and childcare will be provided.

With Gratitude,

Meghan
