From the Associate Vicar: Time

Dear Ones of St. C’s,

My parents have been in town this week and it has got me thinking about time. Multiple generations sleeping under one roof will do that.  As I watch my parents watching me parent I can almost see myself at Cascade’s age.  I can remember my parents talking to me just like I am talking to her.  This week I found myself noticing my children's smooth skin and little bellies, my own sun spots, and my parent’s winkles.  There were many moments this week when I wondered is time speeding up or slowing down? Am I very young or getting old?  What do we do with the present, especially when the past and future are so infused into it?

Advent is a time to reflect on time.  December can whiz by in an overwhelming blur, in fact all of life can do that.  Before I know it my children will be in their thirties, which makes my head spin.  While time may speed up or slow down, it does not stop.  I truly believe that every Advent we have an opportunity to slow time down.

Advent is when we declare to God and to the world that there is enough time and enough space.  So, this season I pray that all of us at St. C’s has time to pause and really believe that we have enough time.  We don’t need to be frantic, we just need to make space and time to breath, to delight, and to be present to this moment.

with hope,

Meghan
