Feb. 13th Shrove Tuesday at Home
Shrove Tuesday at Home
Traditionally, the Shrove Tuesday celebration was a way for Christians to use up all the good stuff before the fasting time of Lent, things like milk, eggs and butter. While we don't as a church or in our culture commit to this practice, here at St. C's and in the Episcopal Church we have had a tradition of keeping the spirit of this alive on Shove Tuesday and putting together a breakfast for dinner potluck.
Due to lack of interest the last two years, the church is planning on not doing a Shrove Tuesday celebration at the church this year. If you are interested in hosting this event reach out to Meghan (vicar@stcolumbakent.org).
We do encourage you to celebrate at home. At church on Feb. 11th we will provide beads and coloring pages of Alleluia's. People can color in the Alleluia's and hide them away until Easter Sunday. In the Episcopal Church we do not say Alleluia during Lent because this is a time of solemn reflection as we prepare ourselves, to shout Alleluia Alleluia on Easter at the news of the resurrected Christ.
