From the Associate Vicar: That All Would Be Welcome

Dear St C’s.

As most of you know last Sunday was Elaine’s last Sunday on staff.  And now as a community we need to discern what is next for our Children, Youth, and Families program.  On May 22nd and May 29th after the 11am service we will spend some time doing this.  Anyone is who is interested in supporting these programs is invited to come.  If you have a child who you bring to St. C’s we highly encourage you to come.

In the short term the Rev. Whitney Devine is going to be overseeing the children’s program and we will continue teaching Godly Play on Sunday mornings. I will be working on the youth programing and will be meeting with the youth during the service when I am not preaching.  My goal is to have volunteers to meet with them on the Sundays that I am preaching.  if you are interested in working with youth please let me know!

My centering philosophy around children and youth programming is that our children and youth would come to understand church community differently than any other community they are a part of.  God calls us to love everyone, especially the outsider and the one who is different than us.  This is what we strive for each day as Christians and our church community is where we learn what happens to us and those around us when all people feel welcomed and included. This is where I plan to begin when I start meeting with the youth on May 22nd during the service.

I am so looking forward to this transition time with the youth in our community.  I am also excited to see where as a community we decide to go next with our children and youth programming.  Our children and youth are such a central part of our worship experience at St. C’s; their joyful noise and sweet energy, let’s work together to figure out how to best support them in their faith and in their lives.

with excitement,

Meghan
